about the harmony ranch

The Harmony Ranch is located on a stunning 10 acre piece of south facing land that is 20 minutes inland from the Northern California coast in Mendocino County. It is convenient to the Village of Mendocino, fine dining and the many beaches and rivers along the coast, the wineries of Anderson Valley and Orrs Hot Springs resort. The Harmony Ranch is located in front of a 50 acre Redwood Forest.

The Harmony Ranch offers a place of privacy and healing for anyone seeking a romantic get-a-way or personal retreat. The land is peaceful and offers an exceptional connection to nature.

It is through our understanding and connection to nature that we can discover who we are.

This beautiful site was once a gathering place for the local Pomo indian tribe who had a round house for community meetings and a sweat lodge on the property. The stream, known to the Pomos as “Kawainaka”, flows into the pond during the rainy season. The pond is also spring fed and supplies the water for our fruit trees and gardens.

The row boat is available to our guests.

The Harmony Ranch provides several sacred sites for sitting, meditation, and private ceremony.

A small grocery store, gas and a post office is a ten minute walk from the ranch.

There are many hiking areas and photo opportunities nearby.

The Harmony Ranch is easily accessible from San Francisco (2 ½ hours), Sacramento (3 ½ hours) and from Eureka and points north about 3 /1/2 hours. Orr Springs Road connects the area with Highway 101 and takes about 1 hour.

The Harmony ranch was purchased in 1985 by a long time local woman, Light Feather. She researched the land and discovered all of the previous owners and issues since the first white man came to live on the property and surrounding lands. In the first years on the land she learned some Native American drumming and chanting from her partner. She was also fortunate to meet a woman who had grown up with the Pomo Indians in the area and who knew some of the history of Pomo life in the late 1800’s.

Pomo at Little River

The old historian had written a simple book recounting some parts of the life of the chief of the local Pomo clan and how he met his death in an attack by another tribe from the north. She told Light Feather that no one knew exactly where the chief was buried but that it was undoubtedly nearby. She further explained that there had been a lot of dispute among the locals about the location of the grave.

In 1986 just before the death of her old woman friend, Light Feather had two dreams:

“I was asked to do a “challenge” that involved climbing up a ladder on the side of a two story barn. I climbed up the ladder and looked through a small portal. I observed that the barn was filled with water and that my “challenge” was to get to the other side and exit through another small portal. I assessed the situation and decided it would be easiest to fly across the water. I arrived on the other side in an instant and went out through the other portal and climbed down the ladder that was waiting for me there. I was greeted by about seven Native American women dressed in white leather and with long black hair flowing down their backs. They told me that I was one of them now.”

The next night:

“I dreamed that I was being led through the forest. I realized that I was being taken to the grave of the chief that died on the land. The brush was thick and the way was being cleared by some invisible force as I proceeded. I came to the top of the quite steep hill and entered into a Redwood ‘Fairy circle’ where some old Redwood logs on the ground were covered with moss. I knew I had been taken to the long disputed grave of the chief of the Pomo tribe.”

History

In 2002, Light Feather experienced a series of events that were so powerful and so moving that it changed her life and started her on a path of great growth.

She began to have visions of a past life and heard the spirit voice of Chief Compache. She was guided by this spirit energy to travel to Arizona, Peru, and New Zealand where she studied with several teachers and Shaman.

In 2005 she began to develop the Harmony Ranch as a romantic healing retreat.
